TO WHOEVER COMPUTES FOR SCIENCE THE WORLD IS REVEALED
Help scientists compute models of the world by mining a
new kind of responsible and universal cryptocurrency

Automacoin

Cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin, require huge amounts of energy to operate. Bitcoin is perhaps the dirtiest technology human's have ever made because 100% of the computation involved goes to waste for personal financial gain. Based on the electricity consumption of Bitcoin alone, Bitcoin would be the largest and most powerful computer ever built in the world. However, all that Bitcoin mining computation is lost in mostly useless computation. That is quite a large computer to waste.

Unlike Bitcoin and cognates, Automacoin's main purpose is to perform useful computation. It provides a sense and meaning to crypto-mining and, in a sense, is the most eco-friendly coin possible as every computation involved is intended to contribute to perform a specific calculation for the most meaningful purpose, the generation of knowledge and wisdom, including knowledge on human's own self-preservation.

The Automacoin Foundation aims at using crypto-mining as a force for knowledge and value. It is the first coin purely based on the most fundamental computational principles in a purely transparent fashion. In the long-run, and in its original version, mining and exchanging Automacoin can contribute finding all computable answers to all computable questions and is thus, in a formal way, a permanent holder and estimator of infinite wisdom.

Automacoin has been mentioned for the first time in a scholar article published last month as a contributed chapter to Gregory Chaitin's festschrift published by World Scientific Publishing Company, under the title "
Compression is Comprehension and the Unreasonable Effectiveness of Digital Computation in the Natural World" written by Hector Zenil based on an invited talk delivered at the Department of Philosophy, University of Barcelona on December 14, 2018 at the Workshop on Patterns in the World.

A preprint with no paywall is available on the arXiv.

The team has received the equivalent of $450K USD in computer time to use a Blue Gene and Cray XC40 supercomputers at KAUST to kickstart the project thereby sponsoring universal access to an expanded estimation of the so-called universal distribution. In our slicing and dicing language this will help us calculate what we call the D6 space (equivalent to 2^12 Turing machines) in about 16 million computing hours on one of the world fastest computers. This computer power will not be forever lost (in alignment to this project values) and will remain available for future use and exploitation towards the answer to everything (quite literally) to help in scientific research, questions of causation and the ultimate data compressor.

Automacoin members Cameron Sajedi and Martin Lind introduce Automacoin at the international conference AUTOMATA 2020.
May 2020

With the Amazon support and funding we will build a spot instance supercomputer and the expectation is to get a 100x exploration power in the software space both for knowledge discovery modelling and incremental compression capabilities.
April 2020

AUTOMACOIN has received a 42k grant from Amazon and their AWS Research program to support building our swarm management and data ingestion services for the AUTOMACOIN network.
March 2020

We are currently
wrapping up a contract open source gig, blockchain based. It will form the basis for our AUTOMACOIN network swarm. This will enable compensation for computation of the Empirical Distribution by a swarm of volunteer nodes and institutions.
